Capture the morning light on a guided walk from Echo Lake to Sowams Woods on Friday, November 6 at 9 am. We’ll walk along the lakeside and then explore the network of trails at Sowams Woods, one of the gems in the Land Trust’s array of public trails. All ages are welcome. We’ll walk at a moderate pace and stop occasionally to discuss the history and ecology of this conservation area, considered sacred to the Pokanoket people.

WHAT TO WEAR/BRING

Dress for the weather. We recommend long pants, sturdy shoes and long socks that can be pulled up over the hem of your pants for extra protection against ticks. We will have tick spray available if you need it.

Bring a water bottle and a device to take photographs at this beautiful location!

DIRECTIONS

Sowams Woods is a 12-acre nature preserve in Barrington, RI. We’ll park in the dirt parking area near Echo Lake at the juncture of South Lake Drive and North Lake Drive (see picture below – where red dot marks Sowams Woods). Enter South Lake Drive via Middle Highway and cross over the bike path to access the parking area.

If you want to use GPS, enter 2 South Lake Drive, Barrington (a residence). Then follow South Lake a short distance across the bike path and drive straight into the parking area. Be aware that South Lake Drive ends at this juncture, even though GPS may show it continuing through to Washington Rd. This old section of the road is now a path, so don’t try to get there from Washington Rd.
