The Land Trust has secured a Federal CELCP Grant for $935,843, a state open space matching grant for $300,000 in addition to private donations and pledges towards acquisition and related costs. However, additional gifts and pledges are urgently needed today to fulfill our goal of keeping this historic woods and wetlands in its unspoiled condition for future generations.

Development of the Sowams parcel would permanently:

· Exclude club members and the public from the use of the Sowams parcel and the enjoyment of its open and scenic character,

· Destroy the archeological history,

· Degrade the wetlands and waters,

· Reduce the value of past investments such as the fish ladder into the lake,

· Reduce the value of planned investments in drainage and habitat improvements.
